Frequently Asked Questions

1.

What is Touchdowns Against Cancer?

Touchdowns Against Cancer is a national program created in partnership between MaxPreps, Pledge It and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, this first-of-its-kind high school football program aims to unify teams across the country for a common cause: defeating childhood cancer. Every touchdown scored in the month of September will directly benefit St. Jude and the fight against childhood cancer.

Varsity high school football teams can participate in this unique opportunity by finding their team’s page and joining. Fans can pledge a donation toward every touchdown their team scores during the month of September. Teams, conferences, and states will compete to see whose touchdowns raise the most in the fight against childhood cancer!

2.

How does Touchdowns Against Cancer work?

Touchdowns Against Cancer empowers high school football teams to raise money to fight childhood cancer, by simply playing the game! Varsity teams can participate in three easy steps:

  1. Coaches, student and community members can find their team on touchdownsagainstcancer.com and get involved.
  2. Coaches and players share their team’s page with their community, asking fans to pledge a donation for every touchdown the team scores this September.
  3. Fans pledge online via the team page, teams score TDs and money is raised for St. Jude!

3.

Who can participate in Touchdowns Against Cancer?

Everyone – there are multiple ways to participate! Parents and coaches can join their team’s campaign as a captain to help lead the campaign, students and student-athletes can sign-up to be an individual fundraiser for their team and family, friends and fans can donate to their favorite team. Go to touchdownsagainstcancer.com to see how you can get involved.

When does Touchdowns Against Cancer start?

Touchdowns Against Cancer runs during the month of September in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. You can join the program at any time by visiting touchdownsagainstcancer.com and you can begin collecting pledges immediately. We recommended starting to promote your campaign to your school and community in mid-August (two weeks before your program’s first game). All games played in the month of September will count toward your Touchdowns Against Cancer campaign total.

8.

How do I promote my team's Touchdowns Against Cancer campaign?

Go to the Resource Center for more information on how to promote your team’s fundraising campaign. We understand fundraising is difficult. The fundraising tips and best practices we’ve compiled will help keep you focused and will provide a list of things that you can do. Be sure to set aside time to read each section.

9.

How do I enter my team's touchdowns scored to our campaign?

Pledge It will proactively send you an email after each game is over with instructions to record the number of touchdowns scored.  You will simply receive an email, click on the “Finalize Results” button, and then enter the number of touchdowns.

10.

Will I be penalized if my campaign doesn't reach its fundraising goal?

No. You will never be penalized for not reaching your fundraising goal. St. Jude will receive all of the money you raise during your fundraising campaign, regardless if you hit your fundraising goal.

11.

Who is receiving the funds raised through Touchdowns Against Cancer?

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, is the beneficiary of all funds raised through the Touchdowns Against Cancer program. The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

To learn more, visit St. Jude.

12.

How much of my donation will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital?

Pledge It is free to everyone, which means 100% of every donation will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (minus the 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee).  All online fundraising requires a third-party payment processor to allow money to be safely collected and transferred online.

Pledge It is proud to be free because we understand that when you’re trying to make a difference, every dollar counts. To learn more, visit Why Pledge It Is Free

13.

Is my donation tax-deductible and will I receive a receipt?

Yes. Your gift to St. Jude is tax-deductible and you will receive a receipt for your donation. Receipts are emailed immediately after your debit or credit card is charged. The receipt contains IRS tax compliant language that can be used for tax purposes. If you are unable to find your email receipt, contact Pledge It customer support at support@pledgeit.org or (888) 847-9854.
